Recording Audio at Home

There are many ways to capture your audio for your stori. You can use the same audio produced from your video footage, for example. However, there are other ways you can record to get quality audio in case you don’t have any talking heads. (i. A talking head is video of someone who is on camera speaking).

  1. Find a quiet room or space to record in. The less noise and distractions, the easier it will be to record the audio you need
  2. Write a script to read from. Not every stori needs a script, but as a writer, it is very helpful for me when I write out a little bit about what I want to say. You can write it yourself or turn to any useful online tools to create your script from your requests
  3. Record your voice for about 3-5 seconds. Say words like ‘Testing’ in order to figure out your ideal volume. Move your phone or microphone away or closer to you in order to adjust the clarity. With all of that said, our editing team has tools that can help you adjust these things in the final edit
  4. Don’t get tripped up on mistakes. Similar to the clarity issue, we have ways of cutting around audio. However, if you say something you didn’t mean to say and you don’t correct it, you might be left with a portion that is difficult to change. These things happen all of the time, if it happens to you, it just means you’re on your way to becoming a professional filmmaker!
  5. Stop and start different parts. If you have to talk for a long time, stop your recording at key times so that you can break it down
